I'm looking for a source for a adhesive protective film similar to the screen protector material used on cell phones.  An ideal solution would be a gray tinted hardcoat PET film with and a silicone adhesive that would allow it to be installed easily without bubbles and removed if damaged without leaving residue.  Our application is to apply a gray tinted film with hardcoating to the exterior of a polycarbonate lens to block heat generation in a product when used in direct sunlight.  We're looking for approx 50-60% light transmission and as much IR blocking as possible.

Any help on a source for raw material would be appreciated.

3M would be my first call... but I'm not a materials guy, so Pat or Pud will chime in soon, I'm sure.

3M.

Also try CS Hyde as they make lots of films and adhesive tapes based on many polymers.

To block IR tin oxide coating is commonly used. For example it's used on domestic oven doors to reflect the heat back inside. Other materials work too.

You need to reflect the IR and not absorb it. If you absorb it then that process will heat your film which is what you're trying to avoid.

3M makes the screen protector material in hardcoat clear but has nothing in IR reflecting or tinted films to block heat or visible light.  They passed me on to the window film division which has film that can be applied to the interior of windows but nothing with the no residue silicone adhesive like screen protectors have.  I've found a few places domestically that make films with the adhesive and scratch resistant coating but nothing tinted or IR reflecting.  A few Chinese suppliers list films with tint but none have any specs on what light transmission properties their films have.

I'm still digging but thanks for the help.
