Pole design
Pole design
(OP)
Hello friends,
I need to design a pole that meets the following requirements:
1. The pole is steel pipe pole 20m high,
2. The oscillation of the pole, including assembly, shall not exceeds +-1% of pole height of the pole in wind gusts with speeds lower than 129 kph.
3. The pole structure should damper oscillation caused by wind gusts (Oscillation damping).
The natural frequency of the installed pole shall be outside the critical wind velocity (Vc) range of 10 kph to 20 kph.
I understands that I need to calculate the force on the pole during 129 kph wind and make sure the deflection no exceeds 20cm. that for number 2. Please correct me if I wrong here.
For number 3 I thing I need to make sure there is no resonance under forces during 10 - 20 kph wind velocity.
I am not sure about 2 and 3, especially 3.
If someone have an example or can explain a procedure, or can direct me to the relevant litreture and codes. eurocodes and British standards preferable, of course American and any other thing you think can help.
Thank you all.

Are you a student?
If not then what is this pole used for?
I have noted that you have started 4 threads but have not responded once. It is not possible to say thankyou without posting.
RE: Pole design
The pole is for a road camera.
Thank you.

2. I would take as the wind load deflection at the 129km/h as long as the pole is not at its natural frequency then this should be the magnitude of the worst oscillation.
3. refers to vortex shedding loads - a major issue with flue stacks for a given situation this will have a natural frequency.
