Weights for Steel Mitre Bends

Weights for Steel Mitre Bends

Weights for Steel Mitre Bends

(OP)
Could anyone possibly help me out!!
Do you know of any programs out there that can take information and produce a given weight for a mitre bend?

RE: Weights for Steel Mitre Bends

To include the "true length" as described by KennyR, try this:

Weight = 2*R*n*tan(alfa/(2*n))*W, where

R = bend radius at end (=circumscribed)
n = number of miter joints
alfa = bend angle (total)
W = Unit weight of pipe (kg/m or lb/ft)

Mogens

RE: Weights for Steel Mitre Bends

i don't think calculation of the weight of any mitre bends is so difficult that we need a program for doing so.
Step 1: calculate the total length of the bend using the formula, l=r x theta, where r=radius of the center line of the bend and theta = bend angle in radians.

Step 2: Unit weight of the pipe/ metre can be obtained from the pipe manufacturer end or from the relevant codes and standard governing the material and process of manufature of the pipe piece used for fabricating the pipe bend. for example: in case the pipe piece is confirming to API 5L grade, refer API 5L for unit weight per meter, similary u can refer ASTM A 53 code for ASTM pipes and so on.

Step 3: multiply the unit weight per meter calculated in step 2 to the length of the pipe piece calculated in step 1.
