Defining conextual links - cannot update/confirm
(OP)
Hello there,
I have had a problem while a series of published elements in my assembly. I have noticed some of them became disconnected (little red symbol on the icon but not the lightning flash).
I have fixed this in the past by right clicking on the part and going into define contextual links then clicking ok. However for this assy I could not click ok.
What could be causing this?
Thanks
Tim

RE: Defining conextual links - cannot update/confirm
Is there an error message when you first open the assembly?
Is your Search Order correct?
Could you provide a screen shot of what you're working with, including that little red symbol
RE: Defining conextual links - cannot update/confirm
Thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately I can't give a screenshot because I manually re-pasted and replaced all of my publications so the problem is not there anymore.
But to give a little mor information;
There is no error when I open the file.
The problem is with a part instance (i.e. I right click on an instance and select define contextual links)
The search order is something I'm not familiar with, could you explain a little?
Im working on an assy that I'm updating every day (almost) so I mark my old work as read-only then use save management to transfer new files into a new folder for each update. My guess is that I have done something wrong at some point with the saving.
Another possible source is that I am using an assembly feature to make a cut so I can view inside the model (the section function is not very good).
So maybe I am having problems when I save the top assy under a new name, then all of the assembly features are out of context?
Also, all of my links are published.
Cheers
Tim
RE: Defining conextual links - cannot update/confirm
Basically the cause of the problem was a "Copy.n" link which was not able to be found.
To solve the problem you look through the list in 'define contextual links' until you see one with no information on it besides the name (all other columns contain only a dash - ). Then you locate that offending element in the tree and isolate it or delete it. Then, the define contextual links window works and you can click OK once more.
In my case it was because I am using assembly features to slice my assy for visualisation while I'm designing (since dynamic sectioning is terrible for visualisation). Sometimes things get a little messy when you are working on multiple revisions with parts which have these assembly features. Thats where the corrupt link seems to have come from, it was the sketch for the assembly pocket.
Hope this can help someone. Took me a few weeks to get to the bottom of.
