Design of Safety valve

Design of Safety valve

Design of Safety valve

(OP)
The PSV requires ASME U stamp.
This PSV is going to be mounted on a pressure vessel (ASME Sec VIII Div 1).
PSV Sizing is finished and the ratings are fixed.
We know the set pressure of the PSV.

A) Should the body thickness for the PSV be arrived from ANSI/ASMEB 16.34 or should it be based on calculations (pressure calculations and thickness calculations from ASME Sec VIII Div 1)? Which clause of ASME Sec VIII Div 1 tells us as to how the body thickness is to be arrived.
B) Does ASME Sec VIII Div 1 permit the use of API 521? (This vessel is not in petroleum or oil and gas service)  C) The end user wants all the items in contact with the fluid to have corrosion allowance of 5mm. May one use Appendix B of B 16.34 and then add the corrosion allowance to arrive at the thickness required?

RE: Design of Safety valve

ASME VIII-1 only give required parameters/design of safety valves.
Safetuy avlve to be used in a PV U stamped, in North America
shall be Mfd/fabricayed and stamped with UV symbol; (also V symbol is allowed/Sect. I B&PV Code)
If youn need a S.V. and do not know or do not have the know how, you should contact a S.V. Mfr.
In your case the corrosion all. may be added to the valve trim or inlet body.
