How to open NX6 part file from a directory while linked to Team Center

How to open NX6 part file from a directory while linked to Team Center

How to open NX6 part file from a directory while linked to Team Center

(OP)
We just got Teamcenter installed for use with NX6. I started Teamcenter and then starting NX6 from teamcenter. I would like to open my nx6 files (located in a windows folder) into nx6 and save them into teamcenter. I do not see a folder structure link in the file open dialog to accesss local folders...only teamcenter folders are shown.
Thx

RE: How to open NX6 part file from a directory while linked to Team Center

If you have NX6 and TC up and running - then you want to check under File - Import Assembly into TeamCenter.  From there, depending on how part numbers are parsed out at your company, you can import your individual parts or assemblies.

Thanks, it worked. But I think Siemens could have done a better job here...like by using "file open from directory" not "import assembly into TC" and then have the user select "part" from the dialog.

-Import suggests that the file is foreign to the tool. Since the files are native NX, its just odd terminology. In my opinion Siemens has a habit of confusing very simple techniques this way.

-A user that is working in NX with TC may want to open a file from an os directory just to look at it (but not save it to teamcenter).

RE: How to open NX6 part file from a directory while linked to Team Center

The file is foreign to Teamcenter, because it isn't imported yet. You will find that eventually you will want all your files in Teamcenter to make full use of the tool.

RE: How to open NX6 part file from a directory while linked to Team Center

You can open up native UG files not through TC by opening up UG and not TC.  To do that, go to Start, Programs UGS NX "X.X" ("X.X is version, like 6.0) and nx "X.X".

From here, you will be able to open up UG files in the OS enviroment.  I understand why you would not want to open it up in TC at times, I have the same idea.  For me, I want to open up files from OS at times for quick layout of a design analysis and I use UG to help find out certain design problems.

But, they are right, you might want to use TC as much as possible.
