End of Section & Cutting Plane edges display

When a section line does not extend all the way across a part SE (V20) generates a line across the edge of the section, as if it was the edge of the part. Is there a way to get rid of this line (other than hiding the edge)?
Similarly, when you create a stepped section, lines are generated across the section at each step point. Is there also a way of getting rid of these?
I thought the second one was by setting "Show Edges Created By Cutting Plane Line Vertices" to off on the view properties > advanced tab, but it seems to make no difference. They are always created.

Where would we be without sat-nav?

RE: End of Section & Cutting Plane edges display
Another way to fudge the first one is to move the edge of the drawing view just inside the geometry.

Yes that's another way I've done it - re-size the view border.
