failure of UPS to run on batteries

failure of UPS to run on batteries

failure of UPS to run on batteries

(OP)
there is a 60kVA UPS we have, but it later developed fault in that when changing power supply, everything would go down instead of the UPS to hold the power for some time. With the lights blinking. We've checked that the batteries are ok.
But the fault is still there.
Please can any one help me on what could be the cause and probable way of solving it.
Thank you.

RE: failure of UPS to run on batteries

Is the load down? Is the UPS on bypass? Where are you located?

Call the phone number listed to call for service. It would either be on the UPS or behind the door.

RE: failure of UPS to run on batteries

What is the make and model of UPS? Some makes have it when the maintenance is due they will default to bypass and inverter is disabled until the alarm is cleared generally via software.

the make is powerware.
Thanks for the post. We will contact the service for that.

RE: failure of UPS to run on batteries

What model powerware unit? powerware generally dont have that issue with them. I had an older powerware unit where sounds like similar fault when batteries tested OK but when individual load test was performed more then half of the batteries where either dead or on there way out. They would perform OK under low loading for a limited time but under a 50% they would open circuit and voltages wouldnt change, also some older units had a thermocouple issue when they were put to internal bypass then the inverter turned back on if there was a mains fail with about a 10 minute window the unit would shut down. Other thing to check is the powersupply card for the battery SCR's and contactor. But knowing what model it is would help more.

ok thanks. The model is PowerWare 9305.

RE: failure of UPS to run on batteries

Yer that is same unit i had issue's with as mentioned above. Prick of a unit really. Check the above with it and also perform individual load test of batteries should have your answer after that.
