saving drawing without references

saving drawing without references

saving drawing without references

(OP)
Hi all

I seem to have a problem.

How do I create a drawing thats not directly linked/reference to the part that it comes from.

In other words, when I create a drawing, and then modify the part, the drawing updates. How do I stop this. I just need the drawing without modifications.

RE: saving drawing without references

Save as DXF or PDF

Thanks grunt58, but it's not working. When I make a change in the part it still updates the drawing.

corblimey,

It works when I save as a DXF, but is their anyway to save it as a slddrw?

RE: saving drawing without references

Wouldn't you want the drawing to reflect changes to the part?  To do otherwise, as you have requested, depends on what and why you want to do this.

You can make a non-slddrw file as CBL has suggested.  But if you want a slddrw file linked to a part then by default it will reflect changes to the part.

There are many suggestions that can be offered, but they would be better targeted if we knew the what and why you want to do this.  Please explain.

RE: saving drawing without references

How about saving as e-drawing.

RE: saving drawing without references

Save as detached drawing, then change the model filename.

The drawing will not be able to find the model. SW will prompt you to find it, if it thinks the model needs loaded.

RE: saving drawing without references

Another thought and Im supprised it has not been suggested is make a configuration with the changes you make suppressed.

RE: saving drawing without references

Save as a different part and drawing.

One of the points of having 3D solid modeling is that the drawing and model is associated, or parametric.
IMO, to break them, might as well use ACAD...or a cheaper CAD.

RE: saving drawing without references

The advice above by the various experts are good solutions.  I would like to iterate the question as to why you wouldn't want the drawing to update if the model updates.  Do you not have control of your models?

RE: saving drawing without references

If it does not say Detached Drawing under Files of Type box on any subsequent saves it will become a regular solidworks drawing and become attached again. Detached Drawing and Drawing both have the same file extension .slddrw . If you save as a detached drawing then close the part the drawing should remain detached.
