Chemloc 8116 Primer (Lord Chemical)

Found two jugs of this in our storeroom.

We mold an EPDM compound over fiberglass rods.    Due to cash flow issues we are looking to use as much of whatever we have on hand, rather than buying new batches of chemicals.

Normally we use Chemloc 610,  as that is made specifically for EPDM and fiberglass applications.

 The LORD website says

" LORD Chemlok® 8116 adhesive is a one-coat, aqueous
adhesive used for vulcanization/bonding silicone rubber,
EPDM, FKM, HNBR and NBR to zinc phosphatized steel
and other rigid substrates .

Well, it says EPDM and "other rigid substrates."    Our FG rods are pretty rigid...

The kicker is the "zinc phopsphatized steel AND OTHER" meaning in my book this is intended for metal...  but it does say OTHER.

Any practical experience with this primer in this application?

All I can suggest is to try it and see.  I would probably roughen the rods first though to provide a better key for the primer.

GrahamBennett:

It works, and it works very well.

Apparently it was purchased as an evaluation sample... it was evaluated, found to be superior to our other primer, documented and forgot about.

So the answer is:  CHEMLOC 8116 does work on fiberglass rods for bonding EPDM.
