multiple colors on one AutoCAD layer

multiple colors on one AutoCAD layer

(OP)
Is it possible to have more than one color on a single layer? Can several cad entities with different colors be moved onto the same layer and retain their original color?

I am using AutoCAD 2007 in a petrochem environment.

thanks

RE: multiple colors on one AutoCAD layer

You can specify color for individual objects (e.g. line color = red) that will remain the same regardless of which layer they're on, or you can assign the object color to be "ByLayer" (i.e. the color assigned to the layer), which will change if it changes layers. For what you want to do, you have to assign the object colors specifically, instead of using the ByLayer or ByBlock default.

RE: multiple colors on one AutoCAD layer

ACAD 2009 will allow you to change color by viewport.  So you can have a single layer that is displayed as different colors, depending on the viewport.  It's a very handy tool for shading objects into the back ground on various views.
