Design of Channels

Design of Channels

(OP)
I recently began work on design a 2 mile long trapezoidal channel, for flood protection. From Hydraulics, I recieved my cross sections (HEC-RAS), and I'm ready to begin the design surface for my channel. Using InRoads software, I am able to create typical sections, which therefore will creat my surface. I was curious if anyone has experience designing channels through urban areas? Most of the channel requires either levees or floodwalls. Obviously levees are much more attractive than floodwalls (sheetpiles), but on some parts of the stream I have no choice. Anyhow, to make a long story short, I would like to know exactly what do I need to consider for the design (access road, fencing, gabions if needed, etc.). As you can see, I am starting from scratch...any help appreciated. :)
