Open Channel at Low Wall Face of Coal Mining

Open Channel at Low Wall Face of Coal Mining

Open Channel at Low Wall Face of Coal Mining

Colleagues...
I am currently facing a project that is constructing a 800m long of open channel along the low wall face of the coal mine? Would be appreciated, if someone can share me of the similar type of this project. Especially concerning with the stability of the low wall it self as it will undercutting the face.
Many thanks.

RE: Open Channel at Low Wall Face of Coal Mining

doesn't sound like a good idea

Thnaks and understood this doesn't good idea.
perhaps any experience/advice in simliar type of "engineering" solution for constrcutinge open channel along the low wall face?

you need to share a few details and ask a detailed question if you expect to get any response

Dear CVG or else..

I plan to constuct conventional (excavator digging) of Open Channel with 800m long along the coal mine low wall face.
Designed Open Channel dimension:
Base width = 2m
Top width = 6m
Channel Height = 6m
Expected flow depth = 4m
Side slope Channel = 60 deg.
Side slope Channel = 60 deg.
Catchment Area ingress around 1.500 square km (150.000 Ha)
Low Wall face dipping averagely = 25 deg.

The open channel will be used to divert the original river for mining the coal. The cola to be mined (final seam) will be around 60m below the designed channel.

Knowing that the open channel contruction will undercut low wall face and posing risk for channel failure&/ overflow that could lead to low wall instability and endanger a 60m mining drop cut.

My questions is that designed of convention channel dimension is sufficient; if not, can you or somene advice me on what would the "engineering" solution.

RE: Open Channel at Low Wall Face of Coal Mining

it sounds as if you are asking if the channel is large enough to handle the flow. Longitudinal slope of channel and rainfall amounts as well as risk tolerance would be necessary. also, is the channel cut into soil or rock? is the existing low wall slope stable and what is the current factor of safety? what is the geology of this low wall? Have you done a stability analysis with the proposed undercut? Will the undercut be stabilized with concrete retaining wall or something else? Will the channel be stabilized against erosion? I would recommend you get a hydrologist involved for the hydrology / hydraulic analysis.
