Only Flammables Flashback?

Only Flammables Flashback?

Only Flammables Flashback?

(OP)
Hello,

I am new to the subject of flame arrestors, and am in need of some fundamental help.

If a gaseous mixture to a flare is not classified as flammable, then is a flame arrestor required? Is flashback only a concern for flammable mixtures? My stream is composed primarily of Nitric Oxide.

Any reference sources would be appreciated.

Thanks,

RE: Only Flammables Flashback?

Flame arresters are for the prevention of flames propagating through the flame arrestor grid into or out of a volume.

Detonation arrestors prevent the propagation of a sonic speed flame front inside a pipe or duct.

Which are you asking about.  It sounds to me like the latter but I am not sure.

Yes, I apologize for my confusion. I am asking about detonation arrestors as I understand flame arrestors are only for end of line applications, i.e. not in between a process and a flare as is the case for my application.

Thanks,
