Simple BOM and database anyone?

Simple BOM and database anyone?

Simple BOM and database anyone?

(OP)
Not quite on topic but maybe you can help.

I have a customer who doesn't yet have an MRP system or parts master database. I currently use Access to take out new part numbers and when necessary detail the part in SolidWorks. For assemblies, obviously SW can generate a BOM.

However, I'd like to use an alternative to Access as the database and instead use a basic parts master facility where I can allocate numbers for all parts including off the shelf screws, electrical parts etc and SW parts.  Something that would also allow me to start a new assembly and call up parts from the parts master database.

I don't need any MRP type functionality as in due course my customer will make up his mind and buy an appropriate MRP system and at the moment I am not concerned with stock levels and usage.

Is there anyone out there with a suggestion? I don't mind paying a small sum for what is a temporary solution. 30 day trials of something too complex won't help me much as I might need to keep it running for a few months.

Thanks

Try ARAS PLM http://www.aras.com/

It is free software.  They make their money from consulting.  I do believe they have a part number generatorin the package.

May have more functionality then you need, but the price is right.
