DRYING OF A 50KM PIPELINE THAT IS NOT BEEN BRUSHED

DRYING OF A 50KM PIPELINE THAT IS NOT BEEN BRUSHED

DRYING OF A 50KM PIPELINE THAT IS NOT BEEN BRUSHED

(OP)
Dear Sirs/Madams

We are trying to dry a 26" pipeline (50km) and after propelling 10 foam pigs by dry air (-40C dew point)the dew point of the end of line did not reach below +26C !!!
We now know that this pipeline is corroded internally and we have a 0.4mm oxide film in its internal wall ,and as you know the wall condition of a pipeline is a very important parameter in drying of it. the corrosion is due to lack of corrosion inhibitor in pipeline during last 3 years the pipeline were filled by sea water!

So please guide me what can we do now ? We need +7C dew point air at the end of line. What is the best way to dry this pipeline ?

We can not propel brush pigs in this line because we have not enough time to do this.

You haven't mentioned what kind of service this pipeline is for.  If I were an operator and my pipeline had sat for 3 years as this one had, I would want to check out the condition of the pipeline 1st with a smart pig run.

You stated -40C & +7C dew points, not sure how you jumped from -40 to +7 on the requirements, but for +7C, alcohol or methanol should get you there.

Greg, its not the requirement, I took it as the -40 being the dew point of the dry air he used.  Pretty dry and little results to show for it.  Just goes to show you how rust does tend to hold a lot of water and how useless it is to hope that it will give it up easily.
