Mate objects to move with eachother

Mate objects to move with eachother

Hello,

I was wondering if it is possible to create a mate where if you move one object, another moves with respect to it.  Currently I have two different sliders.  One is horizontal and another is on an angle. What is suppost to happen is when the horizontal slider moves left or right, the one on an angle need to move up or down.  On the physical assembly, this is done with a combination of a rope and spring.  Since solidworks isn't the greatest for either rope or springs, I am trying to get it so if the horizontal slider moves left, the angled slider moves up, and visa-versa.  Is this possible?

Thanks

RE: Mate objects to move with eachother

How about setting distance mates and setting them equal using equations. So if you change one, the other will get changed too.

If you go into the 'Advanced Mates' or 'Mechanical' tab - I believe there are several mates, that should serve you well, whether it be Cam Mates, Path Mates, etc.

Hello,

Thanks for all the replies.  I would post the file but the project im working on is confidential.  Anyways I think I figured it out using Linear/Linear Coupler mate.  I've been waiting a long time for solidworks to be able to incorporate rope/string as well as springs into assemblies.  Who knows, maybe next year.  Again thanks for all the replies, this forum is super useful and has quick responses!!

I would also think that the lock mate is what you are looking for.

RE: Mate objects to move with eachother

Lock Mate would keep the distance between the 2 components the same so the angle slider would become detached. I'm thinking Linked Dimensions for the offset would work or make an assembly offset plane and align points on each part to the assembly plane.
