Effect of MFL on Corrosion

Effect of MFL on Corrosion

Effect of MFL on Corrosion

(OP)
Has anyone out there noticed a correlation between pipeline corrosion rate and MFL? In theory, the remanent magnetization following an MFL run should cause an increased corrosion rate, and the effect has been observed in the lab, but the dynamic nature of most pipelines, with changing flow, CP, and other parameters, seems to limit the ability to discern any clear effects of the remanent magnetization from MFL for the operators I've spoken with. If you have seen such an effect, I'm very interested to learn more so please provide some details! Thanks!

RE: Effect of MFL on Corrosion

I've had some to the point conversations with technicians and engineers who do the MFL inspections and none have ever mentioned that residual magnetism from the MFL testing is a   considered problem .   These conversations took place while they were doing tank bottoms for us.
We do have a problem at one facility were we have very high amperage DC cables that may have induced  currents into some CS process lines.   The issue was kinda confused, when we found the process pipe was slightly magnetic during analysis.

Here is a paper I found while checking on papers on this subject.  It doesn't contain a lot of information but could be a source for some leads.
