RCP
RCP
(OP)
I am doing a minor modification at an existing WWTP. In this modification I have to intercept an existing 54" RCP WW pipe & construct a MH to divert a portion of the WW. Now my question is what is best best way to do this. Can I remove one segment of the RCP and construct the MH. Or is it feasible to construct the Manhole around the existing 54 pipe and then later sawcut and remove the pipe section that falls inside the MH?
Thanks in advance

RE: RCP
Please consider spelling out your acronyms. Drawings (or even sketches) also help. People come from all sorts of industries and the same TLA* may not mean the same thing to everyone.
I come from a nuclear background, but have a reasonable understanding of piping systems. Based on that, I'd say that "WWTP" is a waste water treatment plant. I'd then extrapolate that a "WW" pipe is a waste water pipe. However, in my world, an "RCP" is a reactor coolant pipe, which wouldn't interact with a waste water treatment plant. And in general I don't know how a "manhole" interacts with a pipe -- are you talking about adding an inspection port (sometimes called a manway) so someone can inspect the inside of the pipe?
Besides spelling out the accronyms and providing a sketch, it might also be helpful to know if the system is already in operation, if the pipe is normally full, if there is a code of construction that applies and where this is located (as responders come from all around the world).
(By the way, a "TLA" is a three letter accronym)

RE: RCP
us PW - POTW, WWTP, WW and SW designers already understand the meaning of RCP and MH. I think this was really posted in the wrong location as only a few of us trespass into the pipeline forum. It should have been in the Water treatment & distribution forum...
As Dick said, you can do it and it might be easier to do all the work before you break open the existing pipe. Although I'm not sure I would stick with a round manhole. It sounds like you need a splitter structure, probably with a weir and possibly a sluice gate. It may be easier to do something rectangular instead of circular.
