Adobe Illustrator to NX4 Modeling for Extruding

Adobe Illustrator to NX4 Modeling for Extruding

Adobe Illustrator to NX4 Modeling for Extruding

(OP)
With Adobe Illustrator I imported an image and outlined the lines on the image.  I exported the image as a DXF & DWG and was unable to import them into NX4.

My goal is to import the image and use the lines & circles to extrude a part.

RE: Adobe Illustrator to NX4 Modeling for Extruding

What version of NX are you running?
If you have a later version of NX it sounds like you will benefit from the "Drafting Plus" option.

If you do an info > object on one of the lines or curves what does it come up as?

RE: Adobe Illustrator to NX4 Modeling for Extruding

Oh, I'm sorry - you were UNABLE to import it.

I found that .dwg works best with NX.

Have you tried to import the .dwg or .dxf from Adobe into AutoCAD?

RE: Adobe Illustrator to NX4 Modeling for Extruding

I tried DWG & DXF from Illustrator without success. The translator in UG wouldn't translate, it errored out.  I was able to export the DXF from illustrator into AutoCad LT then saved as DXF again (seperate file) and imported it into UG.  It came in as dumb curves.

RE: Adobe Illustrator to NX4 Modeling for Extruding

Dumb curves may work.
Are the curves in the drawing or model space?

RE: Adobe Illustrator to NX4 Modeling for Extruding

(OP)
They're in the model space, which worked for me.

Thanks

RE: Adobe Illustrator to NX4 Modeling for Extruding

We occasionally import dxf files that have been exported from Illustrator. Usually the oldest dxf definition supported by Illustrator works the best. Also, I suggest creating a square of known size in Illustrator before exporting. That way you can scale the curves appropriately before using them. I have found that the scale is almost never correct and usually the X and Y scales are slightly different. Easy to correct if you output a 1 inch square and double check it in NX.

I didn't know that .dwg files from Illustrator can be imported into NX. That's good to know. I'll have to try that out.
