Hi everyone:

We ordered some globe valves in Hastelloy B3 material that is supposed to conform to the N10675 norm.

We had an independent lab check the material. The chemical analysis of the required elements came back fine, except for silicon content. Allowed silicon content is 0,1% and the analysis revelead 0,2%.  Full analysis breakdown:

Carbon <0,003%
Sulphur <0,003%
Silicon 0,2%
Manganese 0,27%
Phosp. 0,028%
Chromium 1,73%
Molybdenum 27,35%
Aluminium 0,01%
Copper 0,01%
Niobium 0,01%
Iron 1,96%
Titanium 0,03%
Vanadium 0,10%
Cobalt 0,02%
Tantalum 0,01%
Nickel (by diff) 68,1%

Process details supplied by the end user is: "Product is AlCl3, liquid & vapor, alloy vapor mixture at reactor – Per International Titanium Powder specification B7."

ASTM B880 table no 1. an extra 0.02 m% is permitted for product analysis, so we're still 0,08% above the limit.

What kind of problems can this high silicon content cause? Is this a serious deviation? Cause of concern?

Thanks!
