Extracting / Capturing Interior Features?

Extracting / Capturing Interior Features?

Extracting / Capturing Interior Features?

(OP)
Hi,

Is there a way in NX 6 &/or 7.5 to extract /capture interior features & still have it parametric?  If so, what's the process or what are the features to use?

Thanks

RE: Extracting / Capturing Interior Features?

Are you talking about creating a solid body representing the interior volume of a cavity or pocket?  If so, yes, this can be done using Delete Face, but you have to take the approach that you are going to be deleting the faces which are on the OUTSIDE of the part and leave the ones on the inside.

See the attached file (NX 7.5).  I basically used Delete Face and selected all of the exterior faces.  Just suppress the 'Delete Face' feature to see the original model.

To an Engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

RE: Extracting / Capturing Interior Features?

I am in NX6, and this is the way I do it.
There may be a better way in NX7.

Insert > associative copy > extract (Face) > face chain > toggle on "fix at time stamp" (if you want it at that location on your model tree) > select one of the faces and the rest should follow - but selct others if they don't get automatically selected

You will then have the surfaces of your interior faces.
This comes in handle for measuting the volume of a tank.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the info.  The Insert > associative copy > extract (Face) definitely works well for my needs.

I didn't quite get the Delete Face option.  Where do I find this option?

Thanks

You can find 'Delete Face' at...

Insert -> Synchronous Modeling -> Delete Face...
