Can anyone tell me what "Type TS" means on the name-plate of a 1/3hp 3-phase electric motor (used for a pump).  I thought "Type T" was for 3-phase.

RE: Type TS Motor

It is in fact a small 56-C 3-phase AC induction motor. A normal size, although the smallest normally available.
I am wondering if the "TS" means it is a "soft start" motor (whatever that is). I was told not to use a standard motor with this pump (it has a magnetic coupling - that might break loose if the start is too sudden).

RE: Type TS Motor

In my table of motor frame dimensions, any frame number that ends in TS denotes a special short shaft.  For frame 56-C, there is no shaft length indicated on this table.  But, I suspect that the shaft on this motor is special and it may be shorter than typical.

Under Nema standards, the 'S' stands for short shaft.  a 'Z' means 'special'.

Thanks! Got it.
