how to force a start position

how to force a start position

how to force a start position

hi all
i have a triangular pocket that needs milling out.in fact i have 300 triangular pockets to mill out
i have created a point in the middle of this triangle so that i can u drill to depth.i now need to get a milling cutter into this hole and mill this pocket out.
how can i force the milling cutter in the hole.
i am using nx6 ,boundary milling, contour profile.at the moment the tool goes in off centre and follows the profile ,stepping out 1.25mm on each pass until it reaches the walls.this may sound a easy problem to solve but i am scratching my head a bit.
the job is more complicated than it sounds as the triangular pocket is on the side of a truncated cone and the base of the pocket is curved

RE: how to force a start position

Have you tried to use Engage from a Point?

I have in the non cutting moves ,you can engage from a point. I highlight the point then rerun ,but the tool path doesn't change.

RE: how to force a start position

In the Transfer tab you have start region or start drilled point - select the "Drilled point" (at home not sure what it's called...) Then for your engage under Closed Boundary use Plunge with a distance you'd like the tool to feed down before hitting the floor. Works great.
