ASME IX WELDING OPERATOR QUALIFICATION

ASME IX WELDING OPERATOR QUALIFICATION

ASME IX WELDING OPERATOR QUALIFICATION

(OP)
I have carried out some welding operator Qualifications using Orbital TIG with a closed head but I am a bit confused as to the approval for positions.

The tube was in the 5G position and a closed welding head was clamped on.

The electrode rotates internally in a counter clockwise direction, welding from the 90 degree position, rotating a total of 450 degrees.

I am not sure what positions are qualified as the code would only appear to give a qualification of "Flat, Vertical and Overhead". As the pipe is fixed and it is the electrode within the fixed head is rotating you would have vertical up and vertical down welding.

Thank you

RE: ASME IX WELDING OPERATOR QUALIFICATION

ASME IX provides for 5G qualification. Progression is both up and down. QW-303.3 addresses special positions.

I would test on 6G and have it all.
orbitals are perfect for all positions.
