Power Supply For Stepper Drivers

Power Supply For Stepper Drivers

Power Supply For Stepper Drivers

(OP)
Hello, I need to power 4 stepper drivers [these: http://www.pololu.com/catalog/product/1201 ] each with this [ http://www.probotix.com/specs/HT23-166-6.pdf ] motor attached. Ideally I would need each driver to receive a constant 24V at 2A. Now I think if I wire these drivers in parallel I can use a 24V DC power supply but I do not know what the current output of that power supply would need to be. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

RE: Power Supply For Stepper Drivers

well your datasheet says rated current in each winding is 1.4Amps per phase.

so your maximum current (total) will be 5.6 Amps.

-i have assumed you are not half-stepping or micro-stepping.
-that is i have assumed that you will only ever have one of the windings of your stepper motor energised at any instant in time.
-i also assumed that you are doing it bipolar.

do i hear you ask if you can drive the stepper at greater current than this?
-well nobody ever likes to speek of such because the iron may saturate, etc etc.

your  driver shoul dhave a current limit feature.
