Looking for information on EMF sources within teh built environment. I have a situation where the clinet is concerned with EMF radiating from a 12kV feeder but is not concerned with EMF from a transformer (112.5kva - 480V - 208Y/120v)

Any resources out there that compares the different sources and voltages and their EMF influence?

Thanks.

RE: emf

EMF? Electro Motive Force?

Do you perhaps mean ELF? The thing people were concerned about some ten or twenty years ago - and some superstitious people still are.

RE: emf

Not sure where you have looked, but there should be a lot of information available.  This issue was studied to death back in the 1980s.  Software programs are available to calculate predicted field strength.

Proximity is a major factor as well as the magnitude of current.  An electric blanket is a bigger concern that a 12 kV feeder, unless it runs through your bedroom.

This is still a controversial issue, so tread lightly.

No light treading necessary. That will only create insecurity with people less informed and of a generally cautious nature. No need to give them food for angst.

RE: emf

I don't know about Sweden, but the angst is already there for a lot of people in the US, Gunnar.  I've seen consultants get shouted out of a meeting for stating that there is no proven danger from the power line outside.  Rational thinking is not always in evidence around here.

Same thing here. I am one of those that gets shouted at quite often. But I see no need to support that kind of thinking.

There is a society for reduction of superstition (Föreningen för vetenskap och folkbildning, Society for Science and Education of the Masses) that does a great job in these and neighbouring areas. Lots of shouting from people that think that we are paid by the utility companies.

Thanks. Any papers on how emi from transformers, MV lines, etc., impacts sensitive electronic equipment and rules of thumb for locating emi sources from sensitive electronic equipment?

RE: emf

Is it EMI now?

What exactly is your client worried about?

RE: emf

I used to be superstitious, but with proper counseling and the marvel of modern pharmaceuticals now I 'm only a little stitious.
