Printing A3 draft on A4 paper

Printing A3 draft on A4 paper

Printing A3 draft on A4 paper

(OP)
Hi all,

On Solid Edge 20, I have an A3 Draft. Is there any way to print this unscaled on two A4 pieces of paper (so that if they were placed next to each other it would essentially be in A3) as I don't have access to an A3 printer. It's only for rough purposes but the smaller size isn't really suitable.

Thanks for any help.

RE: Printing A3 draft on A4 paper

You will need to use the Print Area option and set the scale to 1:1

Where would we be without sat-nav?

The scale option wouldn't work for me (it kept reverting to just below 1) but that seems to have done the job as close as was necessary. Thanks!

RE: Printing A3 draft on A4 paper

Your print area needs to be equal to or less than the printable area of the printer.
As most printers don't print all the way to the edge of an A4 (297x210mm) your print area would have to be less.

Yeah, I ended up leaving it at 0.98 (seemed to come out fairly crisp) and just guillotining the few mm of border. There is a borderless printer in this house but in typical fashion, it's out of ink.

Thanks for the help guys.

RE: Printing A3 draft on A4 paper

Dumb question, but I'll ask anyway, do you have a separate A3 capable copier?

Previously when I didn't have an A3 printer but did have a separate copier then I'd print the drawing on A4, go to the copier and enlarge it to A3.

Obviously, you risk losing some definition etc. but I'll throw it out there anyway.

Kenat,
I bet you've also enlarged parts of drawings on the copier so you could measure off them easily.
Why was the horizontal scale always slightly different to the verical?
Did you ever stick one face down to the window on a sunny day and trace on the back to get the opposite hand version?

RE: Printing A3 draft on A4 paper

I have indeed scaled off the drawing that way.  I've also noticed that prints always seem to stretch one way more than the other and learnt to scale using different factors in X & Y.

Not that I condone scaling from drawings obviously.

I haven't done the window thing.  However, the for some of the few 'paper' (silk, velum, milar or the like actually) I would print off the text and then trace it.
