Extrude face.

Extrude face.

Extrude face.

(OP)
I'm using NX 5. The same software was installed on my new workstation.
Everything operates the same except EXTRUDE FACE command.
On the new work station it automatically go to SKETCHER for the
extrude distance and direction instead of giving the option of saying Z and
asking for a distance. The roles are the same. What has changed?

RE: Extrude face.

I use NX7, I think it's the same.
If I forget to set the curve rule to Face Edges, I can pick the face to extrude, but it sends me into sketch if it's not set to Region Boundary Curve or Face Edges.

RE: Extrude face.

Maybe try both "move face" and "pull face" for that extrusion.
They give can differnt results, but one of them should be what you want.

RE: Extrude face.

7.5.1.5 here....Where did "rotate face" around an axis --- two points go?  Man, that used to be really handy.

RE: Extrude face.

If you have trouble finding where a command went then go to:
Help > Command Finder
And enter what you are looking for -
In the above situation it would be "rotate face about an axis" and you should get some assistance at where to go

RE: Extrude face.

I don't ever recall a 'Rotate Face' command.  What version of NX did you see this in?

Note that there has been, since NX 5.0 (prior to that there were ways to 'Constrain' a face which was similar to 'Move Face'), a command to 'Move Face' where one of the methods is 'Rotate' about an axis, which includes an option to define that axis by selecting two points.  Is this what you were thinking of?  If so, go to...

Insert -> Synchronous Modeling -> Move Face...

...and set the 'Motion' type to 'Angle'.

RE: Extrude face.

Try to set UGII_SECTION_USE_PLANAR_FACE=0 in env or start batch. Then you will have the "old" behavior.

RE: Extrude face.

Yep....

Move Face -> Motion = "Angle" -> Specify Vector, 2 points

....does it.  The preview and movement handle are purdy cool improvements.

I skipped from NX3 to NX7, but started with Unigraphics II V3.0.

RE: Extrude face.

jerry1423, if I did as you suggest, the command finder lists "Move Face" as its eleventh suggestion......and describes nothing that concerns rotation of a face.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I am glad I came here first for the answer I was looking for.

RE: Extrude face.

Under "move face", expand "transform", motion > change to one of the "rotate" options
