Inserting multiple instances of a component in Assembly

Inserting multiple instances of a component in Assembly

Is it possible to insert multiple components in Assembly using Insert Components? For instance if I want to add five instances of a part into an assembly? Would speed me up a lot!
Thank you!

RE: Inserting multiple instances of a component in Assembly

Are the instances based on some sort of pattern in the other parts?

You could Ctrl drag additinal instanced from the browser.

RE: Inserting multiple instances of a component in Assembly

Nope.  You can add the part to your design library to speed things up.   Alternatively, you can CTRL drag a component to duplicate it.

Not really based on a pattern. Say I have 15 bolts (parts) to insert into the assembly to mate to holes throughout the assembly. I'd like to Insert Component all 15 at the same time instead of going through the Insert Component process 15 times!

Alright thanks, the Ctrl + drag works well.

Hit the push-pin icon at the top of the dialogue box and you can just start clicking in the graphics area to add multiples of the same part. If the bolts were created using toolbox, or have mate references assigned, you can click directly on the hole and you'll get a coincidence and concentric mate automatically.

TeejT,

Copying using a feature pattern is probably the best way to go.  If your pattern changes the number of instances then the resulting copied components that follow the pattern are likewise changed in number.

If you do not have a patterned feature to use then look in the Help file for "Copy with mates".  This is perfect for copying things such as a washer/bolt/nut combination onto multiple locations where these locations are not part of a pattern.

Using Hole Wizard Holes in your parts will let you use Feature Driven Patterns.

Also Copy With Mates is useful.

Strategic use of Hole Wizard Holes/Feature Driven Patterns for fastener, etc placement is your best solution.
