Instance Geometry

Instance Geometry

Instance Geometry

(OP)
NX 6.0.5.3

I have instanced a feature through 45 degrees, 7 times. I subsequently subtract the 8 features from my model.

I now increase the number of instances to 10 (and reduce the angle). How do I get my subtract to 'include' the additional 2 features ?

I know I can use a circular array, but was hoping to make use of  instance geometry.

RE: Instance Geometry

Edit the subtract feature and add the additional tool bodies. They will not be automatically added in NX6 (perhaps in 7.5, if I read the "what's new" correctly).

Yeah, I was hoping for something automatic.

Guess I'll stick with the circular array till it's "fixed".

RE: Instance Geometry

Rather than Instance your 'tool body' 8 times, go ahead and perform the subtract operation using the original 'feature' and then using...

Insert -> Synchronous Modeling -> Reuse -> Pattern Face...

...Pattern (i.e., 'instance') using the same circular parameters the faces created when you performed your first Boolean subtract operation.  This way the system does not need to try and reapply Boolean operations on additional 'tool bodies' if you change the number of Pattern instances in the future.

Thanks John, that's just what I want.

RE: Instance Geometry

I have also found occsionally that one can change the instance quantities to less than the first number of instances but not more. You could do the first array to a very large number if possible and then dial it back to the real quantites that you would want to use.
