Save a new version of an assembly

Save a new version of an assembly

(OP)

I would like to save a version #2 of a an existing assembly and its containing parts. Meaning when I edit parts in version #1, the #2 should not be effected, and vice versa.

(When I use "Save as" only the assembly file is copied and it is linked to the original parts in #1.)

What is the correct way to do this???

Thanks :)

RE: Save a new version of an assembly

I'd use pack and go.
Do you have vault?

RE: Save a new version of an assembly

use design assent and make copy files which you are going to change.

RE: Save a new version of an assembly

I also use DA. If you only want to change a few parts in the new assembly you can use 'Copy and Replace' - this is quicker than DA if you only have small changes.

mcgyvr, wjaroszynski, EngAddict - THANK YOU :)

Design Assistant works.
A bit tricky though that you have to acces it through the explorer by rightclicking the file, and NOT from within Inventor, to get acces to the "Manage"-function)

Can you recommend using the Vault-function? (if so, then why)

Again - thanks!

RE: Save a new version of an assembly

Vault is a whole different beast.. If you don't use it now.. You don't want to use it just for this. It allows complete document/file/revision management,etc... IT is great for companies with more than 1 designer.

You can read about it here..way to much to type into a post
