Availability calculation: water treatment plant

Dear friends,

I need to calculate in advance (plant not currently built) the availability of a water treatment plant. As a function of it, spare units of electromechanical equipment will be consider.

Please, could you help me with information about how to make these calculations?

Thank you

RE: Availability calculation: water treatment plant

Water systems should contain both design and operational requirements necessary to ensure reliability of treatment. Reliability features such as alarm systems, standby power, treatment process duplications, water storage, monitoring devices, and automatic controllers are important. From a public health standpoint, provisions for adequate and reliable disinfection are the most essential features of water treatment process. Where disinfection is required, several reliability features must be incorporated into the system to ensure uninterrupted chlorine feed.

Perhaps you can provide further details on your application and who is requiring these calculations.

The application is a desalination plant to obtain water for an industry.

RE: Availability calculation: water treatment plant

A typical desalination plant would use reverse osmosis membrane technology. RO water treatment plants typically have spare process trains such that the availabity is 100%.
