Sanitary Sewer Drop Structures

Sanitary Sewer Drop Structures

Sanitary Sewer Drop Structures

(OP)
Just wondering if there is any literature regarding the relationship between maximum flow velocity and sanitary sewer drop structures. I understand that a maximum velocity of 3 m/s is recommended for sanitary sewers, but is there different guidelines when dealing with drop structures given that they tend to reduce the velocity prior to entering the maintenance hole?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

RE: Sanitary Sewer Drop Structures

I don't think you will find any literature.

1. If you are already taking a drop, why would have a steeper slope in the sewer upstream of the drop manhole?;

2. The higher velocity is a problem when you are changing directions such as at 90 degree. Having said that, there will be a concern at a drop because a brick dam is located in the drop manhole where the main line enters the manhole.
