Grounding Detail - Sliding Gate

Grounding Detail - Sliding Gate

(OP)
Does any of you have any information, advise or detail showing how to ground a sliding gate in a station?

Thanks

RE: Grounding Detail - Sliding Gate

Welding cable (for flexibility) tie wrapped to rings which slide along a stainless cable attached to the adjacent fence. Cable folds and unfolds like curtains on a rod.

RE: Grounding Detail - Sliding Gate

Welding cable is good.
For a track I have used double stut (B22A or equal) and a B-Line B376 (or equal) trolley assembly.
The B22A is double stut, use the top channel to bolt to the fence and the bottom to run the trollys in.
Sloap the strut so it moves downhill when your opening the gate, othewise  it's pushing the cable.
IF you only open the gate once or twice year there are cheaper trollys in the B-Line catalog.

Could you also adress it from copper theft aspect?

RE: Grounding Detail - Sliding Gate

Use a multicore. One core grounded, the others at a line potential of your choice. Fuses optional. wink

Ha Ha! suggestion worth considering, but unfortunately I am not allowed to use this option. Any other thoughts?
My first thought is that any copper cable at the gate is pretty much easy target.

RE: Grounding Detail - Sliding Gate

Safety requirements will trump any concerns regarding theft.  You can probably get tinned copper braid that will not look like copper to your average meth addict.

The ones I did look like the one is this picture.  The B22A channel goes between the outside fence fabric and the gate rame. Put it up high.  Some on has to reach through the holes in the chain link and cut the cable to steal it. If ypu use welding cable it comes in color.  Use orange or yellow and it's easy to tell when it's been stolen.

BJC, great idea. However, I can't see what the picture you sent looks like. The link seem to be broken
