CIRCUIT DESIGN

(OP)
I am looking to design a system to test the wear characteristics between components A & B.
I require the cylinder to apply a pressure of 0 to 6000 psi in 1 second then return to start position in 1 second, ie 2 second cycle time. The intention is to run the test for 76,000 cycles. The clearance between the two components is 0.3mm.
I am reasonably competent in hydraulic principles but have limited knowledge of control components.
Any guidance would be appreciated.

RE: CIRCUIT DESIGN

I'd use a timer/switch and electric solenoid valve.  Timer/switches can be set for a variety of on/off intervals and may also include a cycle counter.

RE: CIRCUIT DESIGN

An Allen-Bradley 'Pico' or Moeller 'Easy' controller (same hardware, different software) would be a great choice. They're dirt cheap, easy to use, and the software is free, plus they're easy to reconfigure if you want to modify your test parameters even if you are a novice to control.

Square-D / Telemecanique have the 'Zelio' range of smart relays which is pretty good for this type of application, and there's the Siemens Logo! controller too although even a small Logo! unit is likely to be overkill.
