Deflection in double contained pipe - PFAxPVC
Deflection in double contained pipe - PFAxPVC
(OP)
Hello all,
I need to calculate the deflection in a PFA pipe with double containment in PVC. I also need the stress on the PVC containment, assuming zero stresses on the PFA tubing.
I can calculate the deflection of one pipe, based on single span beam, but, since we're dealing with "double" piping, how does one affect the other? Can I just calculate the deflection in both pipes, and use whatever is the largest? Could it be that easy?
According to Nayyar's Piping Handbook, I can use the same beam deflection equations used for metal piping.

In this case PFA tubing containing 96% H2SO4.
