Determine maximum load on a circumferential weld

Determine maximum load on a circumferential weld

Determine maximum load on a circumferential weld

(OP)
Greetings,
I am trying to design a system that uses a press fit manganese bushing in a alloy steel casting.  We currently weld the bushings into the castings.
I want to calculate how much load the welds can withstand and use that value as the maximum load that the press fit component can withstand.
The loading is torsional, as it is the O.D. of a steel pin rubbing on the I.D. of the bushing.
Does anyone know how I can determine the maximum load that the weld can sustain?

Thank you for your help.

Hi pdxpete

Try this site:-

Look for a rectangular block subjected to torsion then scrool down a bit till it says circular attachment.

RE: Determine maximum load on a circumferential weld

Based on your photo, the weld is in shear from the rotational load.  Compute based on weld profile in shear.
