Flame Arrestor on Tanks
Flame Arrestor on Tanks
(OP)
It was brought up to our department that we should be looking in to see if flame arrestors are required on our drain sump tank vents. These tanks would be about 5 cubes and used for seal leaks, piping drain down, and in some cases pop tanks.
From what I know, I believe all these tanks are vented to atmosphere.
Is this just something for large storage tanks? I reviewed API 2028 and API 2210 and they seem to state that if a pressure/vacuum valve is installed, then flame arrestors are not required...I don't even think we have P/V valves installed, they are just vented to atmosphere??
Thanks

RE: Flame Arrestor on Tanks
Flame arresters are needed if there is any danger of your sump tank breathing in while there is the presence of flame external to the tank, and something in the tank that you wouldn't want exposed to flames. Or vice versa.
