MET uncertain about future
MET uncertain about future
(OP)
Hi all!
I am currently finishing my MET Diploma (going into final semester), and am unsure about my future directions. I've done really well throughout my program and I really do enjoy the things I have learned. My problem is that I am unsure about what type of work I'd like to do as a career, and am not sure if I want to go complete my B.Eng at university.
I consider myself a smart individual but sometimes I do struggle with certain concepts, thus making me unsure about going to university (I don't want to go try it, and fail out or something). On the otherhand, I don't exactly have a plan in place as to which field I'd like to work in, and with being so close to graduating I feel as though I should have this laid out. I've completed work terms in the casting industry, but I don't want to pursure a future in that as the company I worked for is a losing company and there is not much room for growth there.
Anyone have any advice as to what I should do, or what some options are? Anyone ever been in a similar situation?
Thanks guys,
Fogs

In Ontario, I'm taking a 3 year (4 after co-op/internship) MET Diploma program. I can become a certified engineering technologist (CET). I can choose to go straight to work, or go to certain universities and jump into their third year of engineering. Upon completion of the final 2 years (3rd/4th) I would graduate (hopefully) with a B.Eng, as well as already having my Diploma in MET.
I think Rafiq nailed it on the head, i may be slightly just afraid of failure.

The other aspect is whether you can open up the Sunday want ads and see if your degree shows up in the job listings.

If you do decide to look into the job market then I suggest getting with an engineering placement agency(headhunter) to see what types of jobs they recomend. Also, many schools have a career services department to help grads. If your school doesn't then you can always talk to a professor or advisor to see what kinds of jobs that they recomend you apply for.
