Trying to project squares on a 1/8 sphere

Trying to project squares on a 1/8 sphere

RE: Trying to project squares on a 1/8 sphere

I passed the problem around in our planning group and our guy that is working on new patterning functionality came up with this solution:

http://yfrog.com/jmq6zhj

Unfortunately, we are all running ST3 right now as we get ready to release so I can't post a video or file.  However, the process was this:

1.) Create the first 2x2 square tangent to the surface (easiest to pick a reference play in one of the common planes.

2.) Pattern the square to give you one column of bricks going top to bottom. along the edge.

3.) For each row, pattern the bricks. So, for the bottom 3, you might use the same pattern. For the 4th and 5th brick up, the same pattern, and so on until you get to the top.

I hope this helps,

Thanks a lot man, I really appreciate it.....I looked at the pic and did the same thing and to my surprise my boss said that it was too many gaps...but I do not see how you can do it any other way..trying to figure out how to do it with Triangles...I am populating this 1/8 sphere 18 inch X 18 inch w/ 18 inch radius with LEDS on a pcb board... and he wants the max number on the surface with little to no gaps... I am at wits end...the electricians are tripping on the triangle shaped boards..What else can I do...

Thanks for all of your help...

Randy
