Does anyone have a source for very small solenoids?  By very small I mean 3mm in diameter and smaller.  Internet search has not been rewarding so far.

cloa,
Thanks for the article.  Yes, I have searched for:
Miniature solenoids
Sub-miniature solenoids
Ultra-miniature solenoids
Micro solenoids
Micro-miniature solenoids
and various other combinations.

So far, nothing less than ~1/2 inch diameter.

RE: Micro-Solenoid (Electronic)

Can you specify the requirements from such a solenoid? What are the forces, plunger travel, supplied voltage, maximum current, ON time response, OFF time response, life cycle, etc.  Such small solenoid with coil and plunger will give very small force. Maybe you can achieve what you are after with other type of actuator, but without the mentioned info it is difficult to give an answer.

israelkk,
At this point I have the following information:

Force - .6N
Plunger Travel - .25mm
Voltage/Current - To be determined
On/Off Time - .25sec/1.75sec
Response Time - Not specified at this time
Ambient Temperature - 43°C

RE: Micro-Solenoid (Electronic)

I have no knowledge of a standard off the shelf such solenoid. However, quick calculations show that it can/may be done. However, due the small size of the solenoid a very detailed and accurate design and manufacturing processes are mandatory because every incorrect radius, or corner break may affect the magnetic properties of the solenoid.
