Water Storage Tank Leaks
Water Storage Tank Leaks
(OP)
This is a pretty loaded and yet vague question...
I have been trying to research how to determine and control potential leaks in LCS (Liquid Containing Structures). I have found many good websites, and articles about the design of LCS using ACI 350, instead of ACI 318. I believe that following these requirements would solve a lot of the problems causing leaking tanks. However, what other design and construction considerations are there when ACI 350 is followed and leaks are still occuring?
I am trying to find certain trends that stand out for tanks that have issues with leaks. I have found a lot of useful information, but I was hoping for almost a checklist on what trends to look for from design stages, to construction in order to prevent leaks. example, shrinkage and temperature reinforcement, how much is too much, versus too little. Are there certain types of concrete mix designs that are more likely to cause leaks if admixtures are not present. Which admixtures are more likely to cause stress or shrinkage cracks etc.
if anyone can help to shed some light on this very loaded and vague question I would greatly appreciate it.
thanks.

RE: Water Storage Tank Leaks
ACI 350 is going to have some good recommendations on w/c ratios, minmimum reinforcing (.005), etc. Beyond that there's no magic. Take it from me. You do your best and put it in the contractors hands.
