NX5 Drafting dimension and text help lines missing

NX5 Drafting dimension and text help lines missing

NX5 Drafting dimension and text help lines missing

(OP)
Hi,

I could not find the setting to appear those dimension placement help lines as well as text help lines. Previously system giving me the help line, once I move my cursor near the existing dimension to align new dimension or text, if I dont need the help line I could use the Alt key.

I searched all preferences to find the setting, I know setting is somewhere there, please help.

RE: NX5 Drafting dimension and text help lines missing

Are you speaking of those under:
preferences > grid and work plane > toggle "show"

Hi Jerry,

Sorry, its not about grid, If you want to align a dimension when you are inserting, you can see a help line if you are moving your cursor on the existing dimension.
Previously I used this option, now I could not find the setting. Thanks for your response.

It should be on by default (I can't even find a way of turning it off).

preferences > drafting > preview > under "preview" toggle on "dynamic alignment in global selection"

I am on NX6, but I think it is the same in NX5

Thanks Jerry,

"Dynamic Alignment" did the trick. You are great!

RE: NX5 Drafting dimension and text help lines missing

Hey Jerry,

Unchecking the option as suggested by you, did not work..

RE: NX5 Drafting dimension and text help lines missing

I think this might be a technique issue.

As you're placing the new dimension, after the preview is first seen, move your cursor over the item you wish to align the new dimension to until it highlights (your new dimension may disappear while you're doing this, but that's OK, it'll come back).  Now move the cursor back to where the new dimension should be (it'll reappear automatically) and then drag the new dimension until it nears the point of alignment with the other item and it should snap into place showing the 'help lines'.  Anyway, that's the way it's behaving on my system.

Conversely ... when you don't want it to 'dynamically align' ... just hold down the 'Alt' key!

In your drafting preferences, make sure the option 'Retain Annotations' is on.
