API 5CT weldable grades
API 5CT weldable grades
(OP)
I am a structural engineer who who is familiar with materials specified ia AISC. A client has available oil field piping to use as structural members. The pipe is stamped API 5CT0050 . . . JELC I have no knowledge of API pipe spec's. I have found a yield and tensile strength chart. What I need to know is what grades are field weldable without special proceedures.
Thanks
Thanks

RE: API 5CT weldable grades
I would ask the supplier for mill certificaitons for the material. If they can't get them, you could contact the manufacturer, Tubular Services, LLC, as indicated by the API license number 5CT-0050. Start with the supplier, first, since the manufacturer may be reluctant to give certifications to anyone other than who they sold the material to.
No doubt, the stencilling on the pipe will also include the heat and/or lot number, which the manufacturer should be able to trace to a specific chemistry for you. With the chemistry, you should be able to calcuate a Carbon Equivilant to help you decide the material's weldability.
