ANSI 150# flange does not meet code?

ANSI 150# flange does not meet code?

ANSI 150# flange does not meet code?

(OP)
Hey Everyone:

Kind of a odd question for you all.  I know that if you use a flange from ANSI 16.5 that meets your temp and pressure reqs, you dont need to analyze the flange.  I am noticing though that if I take a 16" 150# flange using a m=3 and y=10,000 gasket with a MAWP of 230 psi, I do not meet the thickness reqs of UG-34.  Has anyone ever had a similair expierence or could explain to me why this is?  Thanks!

Jason

RE: ANSI 150# flange does not meet code?

Yes, it is common. Flange design is very much an art and less science.

If you're applying a flange to VIII Div. 1, I'd hope you're using ASME B16.5, not ANSI 16.5.

This topic has been discussed here many times before. One example is thread292-261158: Sect VIII UG-34 vs. B16.5 blind thickness. A bit of searching will locate other threads.

Thanks JTE.  Yeah I figured this is where the results would go but I did want to see if it had been discussed.  Thanks!  And yes, sorry, I did mean ASME 16.5!
