Plastic Gear Life Calculations

Plastic Gear Life Calculations

Plastic Gear Life Calculations

Anyone have a good source for doing plastic gear life calculations?  Its a few oz-inches of load, 8 hrs a day for 2 years, steel on acetal, only 120 RPM or so.

Thanks,

Steve

RE: Plastic Gear Life Calculations

We had Kleiss Gears do a presentation here a while ago. They seem to be (and I've heard that they are) the rockstars of plastic gears.

They gave us a peek at some of their software, and it takes into account more than you could hope to find just perusing the web looking for calcs.

If your looking at production, it's worth checking them out.

Thanks for the input.  The Celcon had a formula and a table for a few flavors of their materials.  (The formula has F in it but never defines F, I assumed it was f, which was defined but not used).  The sabic website has a good calculator, but the allowable stress went up as the desired cycles went up, (the design fails at 1000 cycles but passes at 1 million) so I am a little skeptical.

I'll keep looking and post back if I find anything better.
