I was wondering isf anyone knew how to determine the hairpin required length to be embedded in the slab.
I have 15 kips. If I use  0.9 x .750(#6 bar) x 60 ksi = 37.8 kips. If I wish to determine how long I need the hairpin to penetrate into the slab.

RE: Hair Pin Design

Is the same concept as transfer length. Just give enough length that the load can be transfered to the bar. There are many ways to do it and i think ACI gives you a formula too.

Thaks for the insight. I found the formula from ACI-318 :

Ld = 3*db*fy*B*g
    ---------------
    50*(fc)^0.5
