Mooney Viscosity Testing Of Incomming Rubber

Mooney Viscosity Testing Of Incomming Rubber

(OP)
I am looking for information on Mooney Viscosity testers.    They (current "hand that feeds me") wants to be able to test and catalog incoming lots and sub-batches within a lot.

I need something user-friendly.    Once specified a CMM and it was very poorly supported and difficult to program.   I want to avoid that with the Mooney Tester if possible.

RE: Mooney Viscosity Testing Of Incomming Rubber

Alpha Technologies took over the production of the Monsanto Mooney Viscometers a number of years ago.  Their machines are user friendly.  Other manufacturers of the same kit are available - just google Mooney Viscometer.

I did the google thing.   According to each website each tester is "the absolute best" and "simple to use."

I'm looking for opinions based on operating experience... as in "Stay away from XYZ brand it tends to drift" or "the software on ABC brand is really easy to use."

RE: Mooney Viscosity Testing Of Incomming Rubber

I have experience of many makes of viscometer and I think they are all much of a muchness.  The basic models are manual and very easy to use.  The modern Alpha Technologies MV2000 is probably the best and the service we receive from them is excellent.

RE: Mooney Viscosity Testing Of Incomming Rubber

Agree with Graham, having asked our lab people. The MV2000 is a reliable machine and the software is so easy even I can search the results. Alpha Tech do the calibration/service they are reliable and reasonably priced for the work they do.

Graham,
Thanks for using the term "much of a muchness" which I hadn't heard before but now I've looked it up and have learned something new today!
