Power Supply Power Draw

Power Supply Power Draw

Power Supply Power Draw

(OP)
I have a 120W, 24VDC power supply and have approximately 60W of power being drawn currently.  If I am figuring a UPS for my system, would I look at the full potential draw from the power supply, i.e. 120W or would I figure the 60W as that is all I am using?

Thanks in advance.

RE: Power Supply Power Draw

UPS infers running a system without the mains power being available.  If this is the case you can't just buy a UPS on "power" ratings.  Unless you are ok with whatever is running only some short random length of time.

Yes, pay attention to Itsmoked's comment.  UPS ratings (power or VA) are for short periods of time.  You can extend the time by getting bigger models.  Most sites have a calculator you can use to help determine which one to buy.  APC's works well.

Also, check out Sola Hevi-Duty.  They have a new line of 24 VDC UPS systems, if you're interested.  You can back up downstream of your power supply if needed.

Good on ya,
